PM, COAS visit Peshawar Corps HQ

 

PESHAWAR: Expressing satisfaction over the success of the ongoing operation “Zarb-e-Azb”, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the pace of success of armed forces in the operation was very encouraging. “We will win this war,” he vowed.
He said this while visiting the Peshawar Corps Headquarters on Friday where he was briefed by corp commander, Peshawar, on Zarb-e-Azb. The prime minister was accompanied by Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi, Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak, Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Federal Minister for State and Frontier Regions (Safron) Lt Gen (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch.

The prime minister said that the entire nation was supporting the armed forces in the war against terror and will overcome every challenge. “The goal of achieving peace is not very far and I have full confidence that with the help of Allah Almighty, we will win this war,” he said.

He was briefed on different stages of Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the North Waziristan Agency (NWA) and the status of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in bordering areas of KP with Fata.

He said the government and armed forces would ensure the provision of all possible help to the affected people and the federal government will provide required resources in this regard. Earlier, the prime minister laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada at the headquarters of 11 Corps and prayed for the departed souls. Nawaz also held meetings with KP Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan and Chief Minister Pervaiz Khan Khattak at the Governor’s House, Peshawar, before returning to Islamabad.

COAS visits corps headquarters, briefed on Zarb-e-Azb

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has emphasized that all terrorists along with their sanctuaries must be eliminated without any discrimination.

According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release the COAS visited Corps Headquarters Peshawar on Monday where he was given a detailed briefing on the progress of Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The ISPR adds, that the Army Chief expressed his satisfaction over the preparation and progress of the operation so far, adding that the operation is not targeted against our valiant tribes of North Waziristan but against the terrorists holed up in the Agency who have picked up arms against the state of Pakistan.

Additionally, the COAS directed all concerned to undertake special measures towards diligent management of IDPs in coordination with the relevant civilian agencies.

The Army Chief reiterated that with the support of the nation, operation Zarb-e-Azb will be concluded successfully and comprehensively.

Corps commanders discuss security situation

 

RAWALPINDI: The corps commanders on Friday undertook a comprehensive review of the prevalent internal and external security situation of the country.According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, chaired the 172nd Corps Commanders Conference held here at the General Headquarters (GHQ).Professional matters were also discussed on the occasion.

RAWALPINDI: The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, has appreciated the troops for taking additional security measures along the Pak-Afghan border to assist the Afghan brethren in the conduct of smooth presidential elections.
The corps commanders’ conference on Wednesday undertook a comprehensive review of the prevailing external and internal security situation, especially along the western border. The COAS, Gen Raheel Sharif,The issue of drawdown of International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) from Afghanistan with its concomitant implications on the security situation along the bordering region was also discussed.

The forum also comprehensively reviewed the Pak Army’s large-scale involvement on security, development and rehabilitation works in various parts of the country. The COAS commended the efforts despite serious security and administrative challenges.

ISLAMABAD: The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, has convened a scheduled corps commanders conference today (Wednesday) at the GHQ, Rawalpindi, where the security situation in the country and reports pertaining to operational matters would come up for discussion.

Experts dealing with national security issues are of the view that the routine conference has attained significance in statement of the COAS who has made it amply clear that “while our country is faced with multiple internal and external challenges, Pakistan Army upholds the sanctity of all institutions and will resolutely preserve its own dignity and institutional pride.” The COAS said this while responding to the concerns of soldiers on undue criticism of the Institution in recent days.

Sources told Geo News that the army commanders will also review govt-Taliban talks and security situation in the country.

However, the ISPR, the media wing of the army, said that it will be a routine Corps Commander Conference.

Meanwhile, sources told The News that the PM House hosted an informal meeting on Monday evening where the statement of General Raheel was discussed and again on Tuesday Prime Minister Nawaz had discussion with the two federal ministers who have become focus of the controversy. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his team have already made up their mind for dealing with the tangle as he will be posted about the further developments during his trip to China that will be commencing today. The sources pointed out that the GHQ will deliberate about the statements of the ministers and relevant events in the commanders’ conference.
