HOUSTON:
With the mission of enriching the people of all four provinces of
Pakistan and Kashmir with the ornament of education, Citizen Foundation
hosted a special program in Houston, to highlight the accomplishment and
to raise funds for the foundation programs.
The event
also highlighted the achievements and philanthropic activities of a
prominent entrepreneur Mr. Syed Javed Anwar who has accomplished the
extra ordinary stature from his education.
The event was
attended by Pakistan Counselor General Afzal Mahmood, Karachi Houston
sister city President Mr. Saeed Sheikh, prominent community activists
Noman Ahmad, Dr. Tariq Aziz, Dr. Imtiaz Anwar, Haroon Sheikh, Sajid
Sheikh, Haroon Mughal, Nilofur Saeed and more than one thousand local
participants.
The event raised in excess of 1.3 Million
dollars in a very short time. The entrepreneur and philanthropist Syed
Javed Anwar contributed one hundred thousand to this worthy cause.
Mr.
Syed Javed Anwar was the chief guest of this fund raising event in
which he was also presented with a special award in recognition of his
services to this cause.
Addressing the participants Mr.
Javed Anwar said that when he was contacted for this event and when he
learned about students of these schools, soon he realized that these
students have similar stories as his own life story.
He
said that when he finished his Matriculation and was admitted to Adam
Jee Science College, he did not have money to pay for the college fees,
which was waived by Mr. Adam Jee.
He said he came to US at
the age of eighteen and with dedication and hard work he continued his
education and earned his degree in Petroleum engineering. He said he
worked on a job for a short time and in 1984 established his own
company, which is a multimillion company now.
He said all
his accomplishments were possible because of his education as if he had
not finished his education, he would not be standing at this stage.
Mr.
Javed Anwar said that it is his wish to see education to remotest of
areas in Pakistan. He said that this is his mission and he will do
everything possible to further this cause.
Babar Suleman
and his team was also introduced at this occasion, who is planning to go
around the world n a single engine plane in thirty days to be in
Guineas Book of World Record.
He is planning to donate all
the money raised through his endeavor to these schools. A documentary
on Javed Anwar was also shown during this event. The documentary
presented Ex-President George Bush and Governor Rick Perry and a number
of celebrities praising Syed Javed Anwar for his accomplishments.
They
said that Syed Javed Anwar is a great asset for the America and state
of Texas. Syed Javed Anwar donates millions of dollars not only to
Pakistani educational institutions but also to American Universities and
Colleges.
Recently he has given a fur million dollar
endowment fund to University of Texas Austin with a million dollar
annual donation. The event participants were also apprised of schools
performance under Citizen Foundation and its projects.
Houston chapter President Abdullah Jaffery thanked the participants for their presence.
