Cold storage fire near Karachi airport still rages on

KARACHI: Fire at a cold storage facility near Karachi airport could not be doused even after a lapse of two days.

The cold storage had caught fire as a result of the deadly attack on the airport by terrorists equipped with modern weapons on Sunday night.

The officials of the city’s fire brigade and Airport Security Force (ASF) had made claims to distinguish the fire by today.

Sindh: Seven killed in road accident near Kot Diji

KHAIRPUR: At least seven people were killed and over 10 others injured in a road accident near Kot Diji here on Thursday.

Police said that the incident took place when a mini-truck and a passenger van collided near Kot Diji in Khairpur district.

The police said that the ill-fated passenger van was heading toward Sukkur from Ranipur. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Masked men snatch Jang copies near Lodhran

 

MULTAN: In yet another attack against the Jang Group, unidentified armed men snatched copies of daily Jang from a delivery van and tortured the driver, warning him that he would be killed if he transported the newspaper again.
Seven people wearing masks stopped the vehicle at Kotli Morr and asked the driver – Sabir Shah – to hand over all copies of the daily Jang after snatching the car key and his cellular phone from him. They left the scene after warning him that his vehicle would be torched and he would be killed in case he transported daily Jang again.

The masked men also told Sabir that the driver supplying daily Jang to Rahim Yar Khan should be told to stop his routine; otherwise, his vehicle too would be torched, as they had four ‘checkposts’ on that route.

Giving details, Sabir said as a daily routine, he along with a colleague Ahmed and two passengers left Gujjar Khadda for Lodhran at 3:25am, as he supplies the newspaper from Multan on a route covering Station Adda Larr, Basti Malook, Makhdoom Aali, Lodhran, Dhanote and Karor Pakka.

As he reached the Bahawalpur Bypass, two cars started following him. At Kotli Morr, the armed men carrying pistols and Kalashnikov rifles intercepted his vehicle. While snatching the copies of daily Jang and threatening him of dire consequence, they also thrashed him. According to Sabir, the attackers were wearing shalwar kameez and speaking Urdu.

Indian Army opens indiscriminate firing near Kotli

KOTLI: Indian Army, once again, carried out indiscriminate firing in Kotera sub-sector area near Kotli on the Line of Control (LoC), Geo News reported on Monday.

According to the military sources, this is the second time that the Indian forces have violated the LoC in one week. In the recent incident of indiscriminate firing in Kotera sub-sector, fortunately no loss of life took place.

In response, Pakistan Army retaliated with full force that compelled the Indian side to discontinue the firing.

The last incident of LoC violation occurred on April 25 when Pakistani and Indian troops exchanged fire on the LoC when Indian force broke a three-month-long period of calm in Poonch Sector by resorting to unprovoked firing, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Iraqi troops kill 40 gunmen near Baghdad

Fighting between government troops and al-Qaeda—inspired militants has killed 40 gunmen and an army officer near the capital, Baghdad, Iraqi officials said.

In a statement posted on the Interior Ministry’s website, spokesman Saad Maan Ibrahim said Thursday that members of security forces foiled an assault by the militants on a military base in Youssifiyah, killing 40 “terrorist attackers.”

Maan said that one army officer was killed during the clashes. Youssifiyah is about 20 km south of Baghdad

Police officials said the attack started late Wednesday and lasted a few hours.

They confirmed the military’s account and said the attackers withdrew after the arrival of security enforcements to the area.
