Protests can’t stop govt from working for progress: Shahbaz

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif has said that sit-in or protest could not stop the incumbent government from working for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.

Talking to a delegation of journalists, columnists, and intellectuals from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan here Sunday, Shahbaz said the government is moving in a right direction and will continue the mission to serve the masses at all costs.

He said if the Nadipur power project could be completed in 7 months, the government could overcome energy crisis in four years.

Shahbaz said the federal government has allocated Rs55 billion for Karachi-Lahore Motorway and Rs30 billion for Diamer-Bhasha and Dasu Dams, adding work on these projects would begin soon.

Govt working to streamline system: Khaqan

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday said the government was working to streamline the system.

He said the PML-N government after coming into power had to face many challenges, adding that all out efforts were being made to address the issues and making progress in every field. Talking to a private television channel, he said present government was committed to resolving the problem of loadshedding.

He said action was being taken to control gas and electricity theft cases. He urged the people to pay the gas and electricity bills to avoid serious action against them.Abbasi said there were some challenges in streamlining the system in the power sector. He, however said steps were being taken to bring improvement in the system.

To a question, he said people will hear a good news regarding CNG.The federal minister said efforts were being made to produce energy according to the needs of the country.Replying to a question, he said general election was conducted under an impartial chief election commission and caretaker government.Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the election was held transparently and the people had reposed full confidence in the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government.

All institutions including media working within limits

PAKPATTAN: Punjab Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar has said that the government is proud of the Pakistan Army.

He added that the government has made a strategy to end power shutdowns in the next three years.Talking to newsmen at the Shrine of Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Masood Ganj Shakar on Sunday, the governor said all institutions, including the army, administration, judiciary, politicians and the media, had an important role in the country. He said responsible journalism played a pivotal role in nation-building. “The significance of the media could not be denied as it had played a vital role in stabilising the social set-up and bringing the truth to people. The army, administration, judiciary, politicians and the media are working within their limits. The Pakistan Army is the best army in the world. We are proud of our army, the governor said.

The governor was received by MNA Sardar Mansab Ali, MPA Mian Ali Naveed, Habibullah Bhatti, Administrator Market Committee MD Butt, DCO Rana Muhammad Arshad, DPO Shah Nawaz and others. Foolproof security arrangements were made at the shrine of Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Masood Ganj Shakar. The governor offered Fateha at the shrine and left for Sahiwal by a helicopter.

Jon Cryer working on 'candid' memoir

NEW YORK: Jon Cryer, an actor who knows a thing or two about Charlie Sheen and Demi Moore among others, is working on a "candid" memoir.

The Emmy-winning star of "Two and a Half Men" has a deal with New American Library, an imprint of Penguin Random House. The publisher announced Wednesday that the book, currently untitled, is scheduled to be released next spring.

According to the New American Library, Cryer will share "candid" and "fascinating" stories about his 30-year career. He debuted on film opposite Moore in "No Small Affair" and became known to millions as "Duckie," Molly Ringwald's pal in "Pretty in Pink."

In a statement released Wednesday, Cryer joked that he would write about stamp collecting, monetary policy and maybe Sheen, his former "Two and a Half Men" co-star.

US company working on iPhone 5s, Samsung Galaxy S4 cases that improve audio quality
