No area to be vacated for Taliban: minister

LAHORE: Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain said on Saturday that no part of Pakistani land will be vacated for the Taliban.

Speaking to the media after visiting a book fair at Punjab University, Rana Tanveer Hussain said the military serves the federal government and can be deployed anywhere in the state. He added that no land will be vacated for the militants.

Rana Tanveer said the Taliban have provided a list of 250 of their captured men but only 19 extremists were released. “The option of a military operation is always there but the government wants to resolve the issue through dialogue,” he said, adding that operation would be launched in case of the failure of the talks.

The minister said the export of military arms is equal to none in the global market. He further said that the ammunition will be sold to other states, including Saudi Arabia, after receiving their assurance that it will not be used in any third state.
