Strengthening economy, improving law, order is top priority: President


imageKARACHI: President Mamnoon Hussain here on Sunday said that strengthening economy and improving law and order is the government's top priority and the country will be on the track of prosperity and development when PML-N led government completes its five year term.
The Federal Government has resolve to bring peace and security in Karachi and that the targeted operation by the law enforcing agencies will continue till the targets are achieved, he said.
The President, talking to representatives of electronic media here, said the present government is not responsible for the persisting social and economic conditions. However, bringing betterment is now the government's duty.
To a question, he did not rule out an operation against Taliban if the initiated peace dialogue fails to materialize as the country cannot afford lawlessness and terrorism further, he said.
"We all should pray for the success of peace dialogue between the Government and Taliban," he added.
He said the surgical air strikes in certain areas of FATA were also aimed at, to make taliban realise that the Government can go for any legitimate action to establish its writ and the rule of law in the country.
He said that in case an operation is launched tribal area, Sindh will not face any big migration of people. The people will settle in the nearest areas. The government is moving in the right direction. However, it will take some time till the situation visibly improves.
The President said that despite all possible efforts the government has not succeeded in fully controlling the incidents of street crimes and terrorism in Karachi. The government with cooperation of the people and the support of law enforcing agencies would ensure peace and security to life and property of the people soon, he showed his confidence.
He said that Karachi has become a sanctuary for terrorists and other criminals because it has around 20 million population and more than 500 katchi abadies. He said that his visit to China was very successful. China has planned to invest millions of dollars in Pakistan.
Mamnoon Hussain declared the Economic Coordinator as a unique project of the present century. Not only Pakistan and China but central Asia and entire Europe will benefit from the mega project. He said that the investment by China in Pakistan will also create employment opportunities here.
He said two nuclear power plants being set up in Karachi in cooperation with China will generate 2200 MW electricity daily. Three more such plants will be set up in other areas of the country.
He said that China will also soon start the work on Lahore - Karachi Motorway. China will purchase F-17 thunder fighter aircraft from Pakistan for its air force. This will increase the demand for our aircraft in international market. China will sell to Pakistan F-17 fighter helicopters and these will prove an effective tool in war against terrorism. China will also supply a submarine to Pakistan, he said.
The President said that China has doubled the amount of its loan to Pakistan at two million RMB.
Mamnoon Hussain said that during his stay in China, he had meetings with the Chinese President and the Prime Minister, the Chairman of Peoples' Congress and Secretary of Chinese Communist Party. He said that China's policy is to avoid all kind of conflicts and till 2025 only focus on strengthening of its economy. He said the government has planned to set up various projects to generate 21,000 MW and these will include coal-fired, hydel and solar projects.
To another query, he said the situation in Balochistan is improving that this is the only province where the local bodies elections were held in peacefull manner recently.
To a question, the President said that now he has no political role. He had resigned from the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz when he was elected as President of Pakistan, he said.
Mamnoon said that he is the Chancellor of 17 universities of the country and he would be working for the promotion of quality education and for better health facilities in nook and corner of the country.
