ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid on Friday said the Sindh government had shown irresponsible and non-serious behaviour by removing Additional Inspector General of Police Shahid Hayat.
In a statement, the minister said Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah should review the decision of Shahid Hayat’s removal.Pervaiz Rashid said Shahid Hayat was a good police officer and was selected by the Sindh government. He said it was the opinion of all sections of the society that in the last 11 months, Shahid Hayat performed remarkably well and he should remain at his post so that the operation in Karachi could be taken to its logical conclusion.
He said the Sindh government had removed Shahid Hayat on the basis of a court order, although it should not have been done. He said the post of AIG Karachi in Grade 20/21 could be a floating post. Pervaiz Rashid said the prime minister himself had taken the initiative after taking notice of the disturbing situation of Karachi last year. He said the prime minister convened the meeting of the federal cabinet in Karachi and extended full cooperation to the Government of Sindh.
“It was said that the provincial government would lead this operation and chief minister Sindh would be the captain of the team,” he said, adding law and order was basically the responsibility of the provincial government.
“In the last 11 months, the prime minister reviewed the ongoing operation in Karachi at least 10 times and gave complete ownership of the federal government.”The minister said Rangers were at the disposal of the provincial government and the DG Rangers Sindh himself was supervising the operation.“I assure the people of Karachi that the federal government and the prime minister will continue to supervise this operation,” he said.
