SC orders arrest of main accused within a week

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday, while issuing an order to the Ministry of Interior to arrest the main accused allegedly involved in the anti-judiciary campaign within a week, expressed dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Interior’s report about the action taken in this regard. The apex court also summoned a report within a week about the arrest of the accused.
Justice Nasirul Mulk remarked, “We don’t want a blank report. Tell us what the outcome of this report is. How many accused have been arrested so far and what guidance has been given by them to the law enforcement agencies. Security personnel are present everywhere and they have not spotted anyone placing the banners.”

Justice Jawwad S Khawaja reply is not satisfactory. It means judiciary is insecure. Are there no CCTV cameras there? Are the entries not made on barricades? Is the state so much helpless that every one enters Red Zone and returns after doing whatever he wants?”

A three-member SC bench presided over by Justice Nasirul Mulk took up anti-judiciary campaign case for hearing Wednesday.Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Ahmad Saeed presented the interior ministry and IB report in the court. He made it clear that the government had made safe city project with reference to security which was annulled by the SC.

He said that IB report was secret.Justice Jawwad S Khawaja inquired what the secret was therein.The DAG told the court that IB report was based on the progress made in the case.The court remarked, “What progress is there that it has not been ascertained so far how many accused were there and what action was taken against those involved in placing banners.”

The DAG said that efforts were underway to locate prime accused. Two accused had been arrested and information was being taken from them. Give us one week and we will take action against the culprits and give report.”Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked, “It means we are not fully covered.The hearing of the case was adjourned till July, 2.

Farzana murder case: Police arrest two more accused

LAHORE: Two more accused in the murder case of Farzana were arrested by the police here on Saturday.

Six people were nominated along with 22 unknown suspects in the murder case. The ill-fated girl was stoned to death by her family members on May 27 outside the Lahore High Court.

On May 30, Chief Justice of Pakistan had taken suo motu notice of the brutal murder, seeking report from the Inspector General Police.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had also directed Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to bring the culprits to book.

Man accused of killing two nephews arrested

ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested a man allegedly involved in the killing of his two nephews from Havelian Tehsil in Abbottabad, Geo News reported.

On April 14, Nadeem took Mehr Ali, 11, Qadir, 4 and Zain 7 on a day out to Murree and allegedly killed Mehr and Qadir by slitting their throats by a sharp object whose bodies were later found in jungle. While injured Zain was recovered by police.

Nadim who was arrested during a raid at his house would be produced before a court in Abbottabad Friday (today).

Though motive behind the killings is yet to be known, grandfather of the deceased told police that the accused had no enmity with children.

Karachi: Two gang war accused killed in Lyari shootout

KARACHI: Two gang war accused were killed during an exchange of fire between the Rangers and culprits in Lyari on Monday, Geo News reported.

According to sources, a shootout between the accused and Rangers’ personnel took place near the slaughter house in Lyari, as a result of which two gang war criminals were killed.

The deceased accused were identified as Bilal and Sajjad who were wanted in several cases including murder, sources added.

Treason case: Court reserves order on providing FIA report to accused

ISLAMABAD: The Special Court on Friday resumed hearing the petitions seeking treason case against former president General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf and reserved the order on providing the investigative report of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to the accused, Geo News reported.

The three-judge bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab and comprising Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali Khan heard the case today.

During today’s hearing, lawyer of former president Farogh Nasim argued that there is an official secret act in the country. Tariq Hassan said that he is not claiming that the investigative report is secret under the official secret act.

Justice Faisal Arab remarked that had it been a secret, the report would not have broadcasted on the media.

Barrister Farogh Nasim said demanded that not only the FIA report should be handed over to him, but all the relevant documents should also be provided.

He, then, challenged the complete process of the proceedings under Article 6 and questioned that how the inquiry was initiated, who ordered the inquiry and what were the findings of the investigation.

The court, later, saved the order on providing the FIA report to the accused and adjourned the hearing till April 28.

On Thursday, Barrister Farogh Nasim had requested the court to order government to provide him with the FIA report. He had told the court that he will submit his reply on prosecutor Akram Sheikh’s arguments and requested the court to use its authority and order the government to provide him the investigative report submitted by the FIA.

Prosecutor Akram Sheikh, however, denied to hand over the investigative report to the accused party.

Barrister Farogh Nasim argued that the Special Court Act is not comprehensive and that is why the Supreme Court had ordered for criminal proceedings in the case.

On March 31, Musharraf was formally charged for subverting the Constitution by imposing emergency on November 3, 2007. Musharraf had rejected all the charges levelled against him.

Karachi Rangers operation, 13 accused arrested

KARACHI: Rangers in continuation of their targeted operation in the city arrested banned outfit accused with their weapons at Mujahid Colony, North Nazimabad on Sunday here, Geo News reported.

Rangers on a tip-off went into action surrounding Mujahid Colony in North Nazimabad started house-to-house search and arrested 13 accused belonging to the banned outfit along with 60 different types of light and heavy weapons during the process. The arrested accused persons have been shifted to an unknown place for grilling.

A strong contingent of 300 Rangers took part in the search operation by blocking all the exit/entry roads into the colony and conduction house-to-house search.

On the other hand, several persons were arrested from Musa Colony area in a separate targeted operation.

Accused killed, policeman injured in Orangi Town

KARACHI: An accused was killed while a policeman sustained injuries in an encounter that took place in Orangi Town area of the metropolis.

According to SP Orangi Town Malik Ehsan, the encounter took place as the accused opened fire at a joint check post of the police and the rangers near Kati Pahari, leaving a policeman injured.

Both the police and the rangers retaliated and shot dead one accused, SP added.
