C’wealth media body concerned over attacks on Jang, Geo Writes to PM Nawaz

LONDON: Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) President Rita Payne has written a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressing concern on targeting the Geo TV and Jang Group.

According to a press release, Payne said during the past few weeks, many incidents of attacks on the media in Pakistan have surfaced. Attack on Geo TV anchor Hamid Mir in Karachi and torture on resident editor, Jang Multan, are aimed to muffle the voices of rivals, which is a cause of concern for the CJA.

Payne said she understands that it was time when journalists and editors would cross the line between reporting and intentional commentary on an issue. She said the hard-won freedom of press in Pakistan needs to be protected. She appealed to Nawaz to make sure protection of the media against torture and pressure.

Interior Ministry writes to FO over Altaf passport request

ISLAMABAD: Interior Ministry has told the Foreign Office that Muttahida Qaumi Movment Chief Altaf Hussain will have to get National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) before his passport is renewed.

According to Geo News, the Interior Ministry wrote to Foreign office over Altaf Hussain's request for renewal of Pakistani passport and national identity card that the MQM chief will have to visit Pakistan High Commission London.

The ministry said that all the documentation will be done in Pakistan High Commission London.

Aamir writes to EC, clarifies he is not supporting AAP

Actor Aamir Khan has written a letter to the Election Commission (EC) clarifying that he is not endorsing any particular political party, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Apparently, it was brought to Aamir's notice that a social campaign doing the rounds that he was supporting AAP.

Some candidates of AAP allegedly took to Twitter and used Aamir's image in one of their campaign posters, claiming that the 49-year-old 'Dhoom 3' star was supporting their party.

In view of this, Aamir has written to the EC clarifying that he is not endorsing any particular political party.

"Aamir Khan from day one has made it clear that he will not be endorsing a particular political party. He is not supporting or campaigning for any political party," the actor's spokesperson said in a statement here.
