Sui: 30 militants killed during search operation

SUI: At least thirty militants have been killed during a search operation carried out by security forces in Sui, Balochistan.

According to Balochistan Home Minister, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti thrity militants were killed during the operation. He added that a large amount of explosives have also been recovered while eight militant hideouts were destroyed.

The provincial home minister adds that a member of the security forces was also killed during the operation.

Family who lost dog during Sandy finds it at pound

EATONTOWN: A New Jersey family whose terrier-pit bull mix escaped from their backyard during Superstorm Sandy went to an animal shelter this week to adopt a new pet and came home with their old dog.

Chuck James tells The Associated Press that his family searched for the brown-and-white dog named Reckless for months after the October 2012 storm before finally giving up hope.

"We reported him missing and called the shelters periodically, just hoping they had him," James said Saturday. "We always kept our hopes up, but eventually it's time to move on."

James said the family had planned in recent weeks to get a new dog as a 10th birthday surprise for their eldest daughter, Ally.

But when the family of five went to the Monmouth County SPCA on Thursday to adopt a new animal, James and his wife approached the first cage and saw a familiar face inside.

"He was a little bigger than I remembered because they had fed him well," James joked. "But then he was laying on my wife's feet, and I knew it was him. ... I was in disbelief. I know this dog is meant to be with our family."

When SPCA officials asked if they could prove the animal was their dog, a friend sent over a picture showing the family with their dog before Sandy hit the Jersey shore.

"We're all so happy to have him back," James said. "Thank God for no-kill shelters because every time they kill an animal, it's somebody's friend who might be lost. Thank God they didn't put him down because this would have been a different story."

SPCA officials say Reckless was picked up as a stray and has now been microchipped.

The family is living in a hotel while their storm-damaged Keansburg home is repaired. This weekend, the Jameses went on a camping trip with Reckless to celebrate the dog's return.

Several held during operation in Karachi areas

KARACHI: Several suspected persons were rounded up during a search operation in different areas of Karachi, Geo News reported Saturday.

Police conducted raids in Patel Para and Gulshan-e-Iqbal areas of the metropolis and held many suspects.

Police cordoned off block 7 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal and sealed the entry and exit points of the area. Rapid Response Force (RRF) personnel also took part in the action.

Police searched a residential building and apprehended five persons.

Earlier, an alleged gangster was killed in Kalakot area of Lyari during a raid jointly conducted by the police and the Rangers.

The police and the paramilitary force conducted the raid on a tip off about presence of the criminal in the area and killed the suspect in an exchange of fire.

The police said that the gangster identified as Arshad was affiliated with Sheraz Comrade group. His body was shifted to Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Moreover, two robbers were killed in a police encounter in Hasan Square area of the city.

Shoe thrown at Hillary Clinton during speech

LAS VEGAS : A woman was taken into custody after throwing what she described as a shoe at Hillary Clinton during a Las Vegas speech.

The incident happened moments after Clinton took the stage Thursday at an Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries meeting at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.

Clinton, a possible presidential contender in 2016, ducked but did not appear to be hit by the object, and then joked about the incident.

Security ushered out a woman who said she threw a shoe but didn´t identify herself to reporters or explain the action.

Authorities said the woman would be arrested. The former U.S. secretary of state and Democratic senator from New York has been traveling the country giving paid speeches to industry organizations and appearing before key Democratic Party constituents.

The 27-year-old singer was left broke after spending her entire fortune on the show’s elaborate production, she explained in the upcoming EPIX documentary, reported Ace Showbiz.
“I had three million dollars in the bank to my name and I threw it all in to make my stage. So I was bankrupt during the show,” Gaga said.
The singer explained that she was forced to reassure her family after they were left confused by her financial troubles.
“I remember I went home and I was with my dad and he said, ‘I don’t understand. ‘Bad Romance’ is out. You are all over the radio. Everyone is talking about you and you don’t have a pot to piss in’.
“I said, ‘Just let me do this. Let me just put it on the stage because I think if I can do this I can get Arthur Fogel’s attention.’ And I did.”
The ‘Do What U Want’ singer revealed that her gamble paid off when Live Nation CEO Fogle offered her a lucrative deal. ”I remember he called me and he said, ‘We want to do this’. Gunmen fire shots in air during raid at Crimean naval base

Unidentified armed men fired in the air as they moved into a Ukrainian naval post in Crimea on Monday in the latest confrontation since Russian military groups seized control of the Black Sea peninsula.
With diplomacy at a standstill, Russia said the United States had spurned an invitation to hold new talks on resolving the crisis, the worst East-West standoff since the Cold War.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk, who said he would address the UN Security Council on Thursday, put the blame for the crisis on Russia and accused Moscow of undermining the global security system by taking control of Crimea.
Russian forces have in little more than a week taken over military installations across Crimea, home to the Russian Black Sea Fleet and Russian territory until Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev gave it to Ukraine in 1954.
Pro-Russian separatists have taken control of the regional parliament, declared Crimea part of the Russian Federation and announced a referendum for Sunday to confirm this.
President Vladimir Putin says Moscow is acting to protect the rights of ethnic Russians, who make up a majority of Crimea’s population, after Ukraine’s president Viktor Yanukovych was ousted in what Russia says was an unconstitutional coup.
On Monday, a group of about 10 unidentified armed men fired in the air at a Ukrainian naval post in Crimea, a Ukrainian defence spokesman was quoted as saying.
Ukraine’s Channel 5 television quoted Vladislav Seleznyov as saying the shooting took place at a motor pool base near Bakhchisaray. The men in two minibuses drove into the compound and demanded Ukrainian personnel there give them 10 trucks.
Earlier, Interfax Ukraine news agency quoted an unnamed Ukrainian official describing the men as Russian troops and saying none of the Ukrainians at the site was injured.
Russian forces, who have been in control of Crimea for more than a week, have not so far exchanged fire in anger with Ukrainian troops. Shots were fired over the heads of a group of Ukrainians during a standoff at a military airfield last week.
In other armed action, Russian forces took over a military hospital and a missile unit. Reuters correspondents also saw a big Russian convoy on the move just outside the port city of Sevastopol near a Ukrainian air defence base.
It comprised more than 100 vehicles, including around 20 armoured personnel carriers, plus mobile artillery.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Putin that Russia’s position on Ukraine remained at odds with the West, but US Secretary of State John Kerry had declined an invitation to visit Russia Monday for talks. “It is all being formulated as if there was a conflict between Russia and Ukraine.,” Lavrov told Putin.
