Imran Khan wonders how Nawaz got 8000 votes out of 1500

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Threek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan on Thursday wondered how the Prime Minister and PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif secured 8000 votes from a Sargodha constituency where, he said, the number of total registered votes stood at only 1500.

Addressing a ceremony held in connection with launching of a book by Brig (retd) Aslam Ghuman, the PTI Chief regretted that the people’s mandate was robbed during the general elections but ‘the judiciary did nothing’.

“If the system is to be reformed, transparent elections will have to be undertaken,” he stressed.

He said when a leader commits an act of corruption he corrupts the entire institution. “It is unfortunate that Pakistan did not even get right kind of dictators,” he added.

Imran Khan noted that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was of no use until and unless it was turned into an independent body. “We are in a process of introducing a new NAB in KPK,” he announced.

However, despite the huge price cut, marking BlackBerry’s tenth anniversary in India, online portals like Flipkart still have units selling for as high as Rs 22,990. Bhatia said this was because in the market place model any seller could list any product at their own price. “On Flipkart, authorized BlackBerry product is sold via WS Retail. At present, WS Retail is stocked out.”
The BlackBerry Z10, the first smartphone to feature the new BB10 OS, was launched at a price of Rs 43,990.
There are suggestions that BlackBerry is working on a new flagship phone to win over new customers. Recently, BlackBerry CEO John Chen said in Barcelona that a new flagship is on the way, though he did not guarantee when.  The new price cut could be a way to get rid of old stocks before it brings in the new devices.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan credited his success to the script writers for helping him rule the industry for more than four decades.
Amitabh Bachchan, 71, who got the ‘Angry Young Man’ image in the industry after his brave portrayal of inspector Vijay in ‘Zanjeer’, said he is thankful to Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar for moulding his image as an actor.
“The credit goes to (‘Zanjeer’) writers Salim- Javed for capturing the prevailing mood of the society. I was just the voice. It was Salim-Javed who thought of it and put in
cinematic emotion. I was merely an actor who got lucky,” Amitabh Bachchan said on the sidelines of India Today conclave 2014 while discussing on the issue ‘Cinema as the mirror of society’.
“The discontent and anger during the Emergency brought about Zanjeer and the ‘ Angry Young Man’,” he added.
While Amitabh Bachchan reflected the image of men in the society of that era but he described filmmaking during that time as “haphazard”.
“It was an individual profession and more of a mom-and- pop organisation, where people would borrow money and make a film. The song and fight sequences would be shot over a week and shown to a financer. Till then, we would sit twiddling our thumbs. Thus, in between, we worked in several films,” he said.
The ‘Sholay’ star also has a successful stint in small screen as a quizmaster. He confessed that he took up ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) to clear his debts by Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd, an entertainment company.
“We were the first to start corporation of Bollywood in 1995. We did not know how to operate the business and we ran into losses. KBC helped me earn money to pay off the debt.”

Newcomer Pulkit Samrat has said superstar Salman Khan, known for promoting newbies, has got the “Midas touch” and is proving to be a great mentor for him.
“His (Salman’s) backing will definitely help me. Salman has got midas touch, if he is touching us (our work as actors) we must have done some good work. I feel very fortunate that he trusted me to play this character in ‘O Teri’”, Pulkit told PTI in an interview.
The ‘Furkey’ fame actor played an honest cop in Salman’s recently released ‘Jai Ho’ and is hoping to share screen space with the Dabbang actor in future. ‘O Teri’ is produced by Salman’s brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri.
“Salman is always aware of what I am doing. He is my check point for everything I do, what I should do and what I shouldn’t. He teaches a lot from his own mistakes so that we don’t make those mistakes again. Sometimes he wants us to make some mistakes so that we understand things in a better way”, Pulkit said.
The actor said he was lucky to be mentored by Salman. “I don’t know in which film I would be seen with him but I hope I get to work with him again and again. His blessings are with us, he inspires us for the work we do. And I hope he keeps liking my work,” he added.
Pulkit made his debut in Bollywood with Kumar Mangat’s ‘Bittoo Boss’ and has also acted in Farhan Akhtar’s home production ‘Fukrey’.
He said he was happy over the response to his trailer of ‘O Teri’, slated for release in March.

Mexico's got talent at the Oscars

MEXICO CITY — Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron appears among the odds-on favorites to take home a Best Director Oscar on Sunday for his space thriller “Gravity.”
The 52-year-old Mexico City native, Cuaron gained fame for his 2001 film “Y Tu Mama Tambien,” an insightful look at Mexican youth struggling with class, prejudice and sexuality issues.
Cuaron told the BBC he didn’t consider “Gravity,” with a screenplay he wrote with his son Jonas, as a science fiction movie, but rather a tale about a woman trapped in space. It stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.
Emmanuel Lubezki, 49, also from Mexico City, is nominated for cinematography for "Gravity" as well. Lubezki and Cuaron have known one another since they were teenagers and have collaborated often, including the making of "The Children of Men" and "Y Tu Mama Tambien."
Before “Gravity,” which was released last fall, Cuaron directed such diverse Hollywood films as “The Little Princess,” “Harry Potter, Prisoner of Azkaban” and “The Children of Men.”
He created the sci-fi series “Believe,” which is set to debut on NBC this month.

Cuaron has romped in other contests so far this year, including the Directors Guild of America, whose winners have gone on to win most of the Best Director Oscar statuettes in all but seven of the past 65 years.
When asked recently about the number of foreigners up for Oscars, Cuaron took the long view.

"This is an industry of immigrants," Cuaron said, speaking in Spanish, according to Agence France-Presse. "In the 30s and 40s and 50s the majority were German, Austrian and Hungarians."
"Among the virtues and defects of Hollywood, this is one of the great virtues," he added.

Less well known are the tenuous Mexican roots of Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o, 31, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of a sexually abused slave in “12 Years a Slave.”
Though raised in Kenya and educated in the United States, Nyong’o was born March 1, 1983, in Mexico City, where her democracy activist father had sought political asylum.
The family returned to Kenya shortly after Nyong’o was born. Mexico has a long tradition of giving asylum to political refugees.
After growing up in Nairobi — where her father teachers political science — Nyong'o earned an undergraduate degree at Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass., and a Masters from Yale University’s School of Drama.
